Abstract
Associate degree nurse educators face multiple challenges when performing their faculty role. Knowledge of the federal laws that govern the privacy rights of students, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), provides the educator with tools essential for the fair handling of student records. This article describes this law and its major amendments, discusses scenarios unique to nursing education, and offers suggestions to manage situations affecting privacy of nursing students.
