Abstract

Many nursing programs are incorporating a variety of teaching methods that place an increased emphasis on adult learning theory using the concept of self-direction. Research was undertaken to explore the students' perspectives toward a system of self-selection of clinical assignments. Results showed that self-selection better enhanced students' individual learning needs while still functioning within meeting the course objectives. Student's satisfaction with the clinical experience increased, and sense of responsibility for their individual learning was promoted.
