Abstract
While competition is intense and innovation is vital in the domain of nanotechnology, utilisation of nanocomposites in food packaging has become the most developed area in the food industry. Migration of nanocomponents from nanocomposite packaging contacting with foodstuffs, is one of the most important concerns in human exposure to nanomaterials and therefore potential health risks. Risk assessment of nano-packaging materials provides an unique challenge for food safety. This article explores the current efforts on migration assessment for nanocomposites in food packaging, and provides a better understanding of the existing relevant regulatory setups for protecting public health.
