BackgroundInnovation in mature industry is a topic of great interest for both practitioners and researchers. However, little attempt has been undertaken to investigate inter-organizational partnership effects on innovations.Scope and approachThis study tries to fill this literature gap. This article reviews the extant literature on factors affecting innovation in mature industry and tests several hypotheses. It hypothesizes that partnership with other organizations, participation in industry associations and public support have positive effects on firms' innovation. Then it tests three main groups of factors.Key findings and conclusionsThe study presents some implications for companies and highlights some trends in future research.
