Abstract

Public adoption of new technologies is an important determinant for their success. In this paper we examined a specific case of new technology in the nutrition domain – nutrigenomics – the interaction between nutrition and human genes. From 29 semi-structured interviews with Dutch experts in the field, we built an overview of the critical factors for the development of nutrigenomics. Our results indicate that there is not yet consensus among experts about the demarcation of nutrigenomics, its development over time and the factors that will determine market success or failure. Specific issues about which experts agree and disagree are discussed in more detail.
