Abstract
⺠Food riots across Africa occurred in response to the food crisis of 2007-2008. ⺠We empirically examine which factors contributed to food riots in Africa. ⺠More poverty and poorer governance are associated with a higher likelihood of riots. ⺠The analysis stresses the key role of pro-poor long-term policies and investments.
