Abstract
⺠We analyze the role of contracts for market channel choices of farmers. ⺠Modern market channels mostly work with contracts; village traders purchase without. ⺠There are significant differences between marketing channels and contract features. ⺠Farmers generally prefer non-contract marketing options. ⺠Certain factors like provision of inputs increase the attractiveness of contracts.
