Abstract
⺠Obovatol, honokiol, and magnolol were isolated from Magnoliae Cortex. ⺠Isolated compounds were neuroprotective against glutamate-induced cell death. ⺠Obovatol and honokiol inhibited the glutamate-mediated apoptotic stimuli. ⺠Obovatol most strongly suppressed the glutamate toxicity by antioxidant activity. ⺠Obovatol and honokiol might be useful for preventing neurodegenerative disorders.
