Subchronic and reproductive toxicity of whole dried Hoodia parviflora aerial parts in the rat

► Dried H. parviflora powder may have potential as weight loss aid. ► Safety of H. parviflora powder tested in a 90-day oral toxicity study in rats with a reproductive toxicity phase. ► Dried H. parviflora powder administered by gavage to Sprague-Dawley rats at doses of 0, 100, 250, and 350 mg/kg bw/day. ► No adverse effects on any parameters measured, including reproductive function. ► NOAEL was considered to be 350 mg/kg bw/day, the highest dose tested.
