Abstract
⺠Capsaicin or resveratrol protects cerebral cortical neurons against glutamate toxicity. ⺠Capsaicin or resveratrol reduces oxidative stress and apoptosis induced by glutamate in neurons. ⺠Capsaicin or resveratrol down-regulates pro-inflammatory cytokine overexpressions induced by glutamate in neurons. ⺠Combined treatment with both phytochemicals further enhances the neuroprotection activities in glutamate-treated neurons. ⺠These strategies in a post-treatment paradigm could be a useful therapeutic application for the neurodegenerative disorders.
