Abstract
⺠The concept of “The Perception Gap” is described. ⺠It identifies risks which arise when fears do not match the evidence. ⺠These misperceptions are not the product of the news media. ⺠They are the result of the subjective nature of risk perception psychology. ⺠Policy must account for this psychology to reduce the danger of the Perception Gap.
