► The concept of “The Perception Gap” is described. ► It identifies risks which arise when fears do not match the evidence. ► These misperceptions are not the product of the news media. ► They are the result of the subjective nature of risk perception psychology. ► Policy must account for this psychology to reduce the danger of the Perception Gap.
