► Black gram husk (BGH) is a waste by-product in black gram industry. ► BGH extract showed potential antioxidant properties. ► The husk extract protected DNA and RBC against oxidative damage. ► The husk extract inhibited the α-glucosidase enzyme activity. ► The phenolic acids present in the husk extract were identified by RP-HPLC.
