Abstract
⺠Genotoxic effect of patulin after systemic administration was evaluated in mice. ⺠Dose-dependent increase in DNA strand breaks (brain, liver, kidneys) was detected. ⺠Decreased level of GSH and increased lipid peroxidation were also observed. ⺠Pre-treatment with N-acetyl-cysteine restored GSH levels and reduced DNA damage. ⺠Our results showed correlation between pro-oxidant and genotoxic effects of patulin.
