Abstract
► Antioxidant properties of phloroglucinol were studied in vitro and in HepG2 cells. ► Phloroglucinol showed higher radical scavenging capacity than Trolox in vitro. ► Phloroglucinol modulates the response of antioxidant defences in HepG2 cells. ► Phloroglucinol protects from lipid peroxidation in cells under oxidative stress.
