Abstract
► Defatted Jatropha curcas kernel meal is rich in protein and phytate. ► The phytate was isolated from defatted Jatropha-kernel meal. ► Dietary inclusion of Jatropha-phytate adversely affects the growth performance and physiology in Nile tilapia. ► Jatropha phytate also exhibited hypocholesterolemic and hypoglycemic effects. ► Supplementation of phytase enzymes in Jatropha based diets mitigates the adverse effects of Jatropha-phytate.
