Abstract
⺠A phenolic extraction of 21 commercial seaweed species has been guided to evaluate the photoprotective capacities of extracts. ⺠Most phenolic seaweed extracts displayed in vivo UVB-photoprotective effects. ⺠Extracts of Macrocystis pyrifera and Porphyra columbina showed the highest photoprotective efficacy. ⺠Carrageenophytes Sarcothalia radula and Gigartina skottsbergii showed valuable activities.
