Abstract
⺠Sampling uncertainty accounts for a high proportion of total measurement uncertainty. ⺠Sampling uncertainty is often >85% for colony counts on replicate samples. ⺠For small samples the general coverage factor underestimates expanded uncertainty. ⺠Attributes criteria largely ignore the impact of sampling uncertainty.
