Abstract
⺠The Pad-decarboxylation system in germinating spores of Aspergillus niger degrades food preservatives. ⺠Decarboxylation required a carboxylic acid with an alkenyl double bond at C2 and C4. ⺠2,3,4,5,6-Pentafluorocinnamic acid was a substrate but had no inducer function. ⺠Several compounds block decarboxylation and may serve to reduce food spoilage by moulds.
