Abstract
⺠We assessed the risks and benefits of visual-only meat inspection for both indoor and outdoor pigs. ⺠Changing from traditional inspection, porcine tuberculosis and endocarditis were the conditions of most concern. ⺠The risk to human health was considered negligible for both TB and endocarditis, regardless of meat inspection method. ⺠There were not enough data to confidently determine the benefits from moving to visual-only meat inspection.
