► Fifty samples of instant coffee marketed in Italy were analyzed for ochratoxin A. ► Ochratoxin A occurred in 96% of the samples. ► Ochratoxin A levels were always below the European Union limit. ► The ochratoxin A intake was evaluated in respect of the PTWI stated by EFSA.
