Abstract
► Survey of diarrhoeagenic E. coli in minced beef and boerewors. ► Evaluation of E. coli serotypes involved. ► High counts of E. coli and coliforms indicated poor hygiene in food supply chain. ► The dominant virotype was EPEC and the most virulent one was VTEC. ► Low incidence of VTEC gives reassurance to producers, retailers and consumers.
