The word sedation has become common in the medical field. This same word is used to refer to both anxiolysis and to a deeper, continuous sedation leading to death. When referring to a sedation protocol, the author's perplexity is at a paroxysm. In her opinion, deep sedation must remain a palliative care technique which can only be applicable on an individual basis and in specific circumstances. Does the word sedation fit all situations?
