Intranasal immunisation of mice against Streptococcus equi using positively charged nanoparticulate carrier systems

► Positively charged nanoparticulate systems were compared as vaccine carriers. ► S. equi antigens were incorporated in liposomes and chitosan nanoparticles. ► Formulations were given i.n. to mice and elicited humoral and cellular responses. ► Increased sIgA in lungs was obtained specially with mucoadhesive chitosan particles. ► Both formulations induced Th1 and Th2 responses.
