Preference for related mates in the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster

► We investigate how relatedness affects mate choice in D. melanogaster. ► Linear and nonlinear effects on mate choice are examined. ► Increasing relatedness is associated with reduced time to copulation. ► Our results are discussed in the context of optimal inbreeding theory.
