Pallial mucus of the oyster Crassostrea virginica regulates the expression of putative virulence genes of its pathogen Perkinsus marinus

- Perkinsus marinus was grown in media supplemented or not with oyster mucus.
- The virulence of pathogens supplemented with pallial mucus increased significantly.
- Transcriptomes of virulent and less virulent P. marinus were profiled.
- Mucus exposure regulated several potent virulence-related genes.
