“Мой Костер в Тумане Светит...”. О дружбе поэтов Якова Полонского и Федора Тютчева

Ia.P. Polonskii (1819–1898) completed his study of law at the University of Moscow in 1844. His first poems appeared in 1837. Important themes in his poetry are love for nature and the spiritual secrets of life. Poetry for him is the harmony of the beautiful. Love makes it possible to enter the realm of beauty and to understand the infinity of the world. By writing poetry the poet perfects his own soul. Polonskii was close to Tiutchev and compared him to a nightly campfire in a wood in winter, himself with a lonesome traveller, rushing to this campfire. In 1891 Polonskii received the Pushkin prize and at the end of his life was chosen as a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
