Biochemical characterization of a chloroplast localized fatty acid reductase from Arabidopsis thaliana

► In vitro characterization of purified AtFAR6. ► Expression of AtFAR6, AtFAR6-YFP fusion in Nicotiana leaves. ► Besides fatty alcohols as end products, AtFAR6 released fatty aldehydes, fatty acids. ► Both 16:0-CoA and 16:0-ACP serves as substrates at approximate the same efficiency. ► AtFAR6 is the first FAR produces and accumulates C16:0-alcohol within chloroplasts.
