Objective: To explore the importance of diagnosing the symptoms and signs of blood stasis syndrome (BSS) of coronary heart disease (CHD) using different statistic methods. Method: Using factor analysis and regression analysis to select more important items. Results: The most important items selected using the step-by-step regression analysis were angina, heartthrob, chest stuffy, fatigue and inability, black lips, coarseness in skin, black skin around eye, burning sensation of five centers, purple and dark tongue, petechia in tongue, varicose veins in tongue, and stringy pulse. The most important items selected during the discriminant analysis were as follows: purple and dark tongue, varicose veins in tongue, acerbity pulse, coarseness in skin, black gingiva. Conclusion: Different quantitative methods can select different items from many ways, which have different basis for the diagnosis. Using these methods, we can select the better differentiated items for diagnosing BSS of CHD.
