چکیده انگلیسی

Nonallergic disorders of the nose are the cause of wide spread morbidity. The most frequent form observed clinically is vasomotor or idiopathic rhinitis, a common nasal condition of unclear pathophysiology, which is now proposed to be called nonallergic rhinopathy (NAR). Rhinopathy in general is a term, defined any disease or malformation of the nose, but in practice it is used to describe the group of nasal pathologies of noninflammatory origin, which do not involve immunological or infectious mechanisms. Nonallergic rhinopathy is a chronic nasal condition with symptoms that may be perennial, persistent, intermittent, or seasonal and/or elicited by recognized triggers, mostly environmental conditions that do not bother normal individuals. Those symptoms include the following: strong odors, exposure to cold air, changes in temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, ingestion of alcoholic beverages, changes in menstrual-related hormone levels, but also strong emotions. Patients can also have persistent symptoms in the absence of identified (or recognized) reasons. Nonallergic rhinopathy is usually adult onset, with predominance of females. There are data that neurosensory abnormalities play a crucial role as an underlying mechanism of this pathology. Among the typical symptoms predominantly congestion and rhinorrhea are found, but postnasal drip, facial pain or pressure, throat clearing, chronic cough could also be present, which are usually worsened or triggered by conditions noted above. The diagnosis of nonallergic rhinopathy is primarily made by clinical history and exclusion of other known causes. That is a fact that nonallergic rhinopathy is rather underdiagnosed and the same time it is an inadequately treated pathology of the nose. It tends to require chronic medical management, often individualized and complex, based on symptom severity. There are still some patients, who do not respond satisfactorily even for the therapy combined different groups of medications.
