Tabaquismo y enfermedad de Crohn: estrategias de deshabituación

ResumenEl tabaquismo es una enfermedad crónica responsable de una gran variedad de enfermedades, principalmente respiratorias y cardiovasculares. Es sabido que fumar tabaco es el principal factor ambiental vinculado a la patogénesis y al curso de la enfermedad de Crohn (EC); sin embargo, la deshabituación tabáquica, muchas veces no se tiene en cuenta como parte del tratamiento de la enfermedad. En la última década ha habido importantes progresos en cuanto al entendimiento de la fisiopatología y el tratamiento de la adicción tabáquica. En la actualidad se dispone de varios recursos médicos que van desde un breve aviso en la consulta hasta terapias farmacológicas dirigidas a los receptores de nicotina para lograr la deshabituación tabáquica en nuestros pacientes. Es función del gastroenterólogo realizar un consejo médico firme y evaluar la necesidad de tratamientos adyuvantes para lograr que el paciente con EC deje de fumar.

Smoking is a chronic disease that causes a wide variety of health problems, especially respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Tobacco smoking is the main environmental factor linked to the pathogenesis and clinical course of Crohn's disease. However, smoking cessation is often not included as part of the treatment of this disease. In the last decade, major advances have been made in our understanding of the physiopathology and treatment of nicotine addiction. Several medical resources are currently available, ranging from a brief warning in the consulting room out patient clinic to drug therapies aimed at nicotine receptors to achieve smoking cessation. Gastroenterologists should provide firm medical advice and evaluate the need for adjuvant treatments to achieve smoking cessation in patients with Crohn's disease.
