The processing of concurrent sounds based on inharmonicity and asynchronous onsets: An object-related negativity (ORN) study

► We studied concurrent segregation based on inharmonicity and asynchronous onsets. ► The object-related negativity (ORN) served to index concurrent sound segregation. ► With increased onset asynchrony, induced by a 500-ms leading partial, ORN decreased. ► Long onset asynchrony thus does not act as a direct cue in concurrent segregation. ► Its effect is indirect, mediated via perceptual stability of the leading partial.
