Genetic variation in folate metabolism is not associated with cognitive functioning or mood in healthy adults

► Low folate levels have been implicated in cognitive impairment and depressed mood. ► Cognitive performance and mood were assessed in two large population-based samples. ► Folate-related TS, SHMT1, and MTHFR polymorphic variants were determined. ► None of the polymorphisms were associated with cognition or mood state.
