Understanding local population genetics of tsetse: The case of an isolated population of Glossina palpalis gambiensis in Burkina Faso

► Tsetse flies as Glossina palpalis gambiensis usually display heterozygote deficits. ► This is interpreted by the presence of flies from remote sites (Wahlund effects). ► We analyzed a population of G. palpalis gambiensis known to be isolated. ► We found that this population indeed behaves as a random mating population (no Wahlund effect). ► This confirms the Wahlund effect hypothesis found elsewhere.
