► PNES and epileptic seizures (ES) have similar risk for harm in EMUs. ► Automated seizure detection software does not assist in making staff aware of PNES. ► Actual injury rates are low in patients with PNES in EMUs. ► Patients with PNES or ES in EMUs should undergo the same safety protocols.
