Survey of Naegleria from Taiwan recreational waters using culture enrichment combined with PCR

► Culture enrichment with PCR was used to investigate the distribution of Naegleriae. ► Naegleria spp. were detected in 19 (17.8%) of the 107 recreational water samples. ► The Naegleria-positive samples showed more total coliforms. ► Some Naegleria spp. may pose health risks to people who frequent recreational waters.
