Identification of Fasciola species isolated from Egypt based on sequence analysis of genomic (ITS1 and ITS2) and mitochondrial (NDI and COI) gene markers

►In this manuscript Fasciola flukes were collected from different hosts (cattle, buffalo, and sheep) brought to different Abattoirs ►DNA was extracted and the target gene markers were amplified by PCR technique. ►Obtained PCR fragments were directly sequenced or cloned into the appropriate vectors when necessary. ►Nucleotide sequences were aligned and consensus sequences were subjected to blast homology search and phylogeny was inferred using maximum parsimony method as implemented in the MEGA 4 software based on mitochondrial gene markers NDI and COI. ►This study provided the first molecular evidence of the presence of Fasciola hepatica/gigantica intermediate form in Egypt.
