Antagonism of the protein kinase R pathway by the guinea pig cytomegalovirus US22-family gene gp145

► The guinea pig cytomegalovirus (CMV) protein gp145 antagonizes the protein kinase R pathway. ► gp145 binds dsRNA and its minimal dsRNA-binding domain is conserved with HCMV TRS1. ► Unlike mouse CMV m142/m143, gp145 alone is sufficient to block PKR. ► All known CMV PKR antagonists are members of the US22 gene family.
