Effects of selective and non-selective cyclooxygenase inhibition against neurological deficit and brain oedema following closed head injury in mice

► The brain content of cyclooxygenase type 2 is increased after closed head injury. ► The in vivo activity of cyclooxygenase type 2 is increased after closed head injury. ► The cyclooxygenase type 2 inhibitors have no effect on post-traumatic consequences. ► Indomethacin improves neurological recovery after closed head injury. ► Indomethacin has no effect against post-traumatic brain oedema.
