Inner ear morphological correlates of ultrasonic hearing in frogs

► Among vertebrates, ultrasonic hearing has been considered domain of mammals. ► We study the inner ears of 3 species of frogs that can detect ultrasound (US). ► We use immunohistochemistry & confocal microscopy. ► See several functional features that extend hearing bandwidth for US detection. ► Modifications also seen in 1 species of Lao torrent frog; presumptive US detector.
