The tricarboxylic acid cycle in L3Teladorsagia circumcincta: metabolism of acetyl CoA to succinyl CoA

► Enzymes of the decarboxylating arm of the TCA cycle in the L3Teladorsagia circumcincta were examined. ► Citrate synthase, aconitase, isocitrate dehydrogenase and α-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase activities were detected in tissue homogenates. ► Enzyme Vmax and substrate Kms were calculated. ► Only citrate synthase had Km values which were markedly different from values obtained from mammalian species. ► In terms of catalytic efficiency, this arm of the TCA cycle is most limited by α-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase activity.
