Schistosoma japonicum soluble egg antigens induce apoptosis and inhibit activation of hepatic stellate cells: a possible molecular mechanism

- Soluble egg antigens (SEA) inhibit hepatic stellate cell (HSC) proliferation and arrest the cell cycle in G0/G1 phase.
- SEA induces LX-2 cell apoptosis through the TRAIL/DR5 and caspase-dependent pathways.
- SEA inhibits the activation of HSCs through PPARγ and the TGFβ signalling pathway.
