Negotiating an appropriate pathway of care for women with urinary incontinence is often complex. The management of female bladder dysfunction often requires the input of many healthcare professionals, making the process daunting for both patient and doctor. This contribution covers the definition of a care pathway, patient involvement, primary care responsibilities and when to refer on, and provides a model for a team approach for primary care and an integrated approach to the management of female urinary incontinence.
