One-step hydrogenation-esterification of furfural and acetic acid over bifunctional Pd catalysts for bio-oil upgrading

► The OHE reaction of furfural and acetic acid is feasible over bifunctional catalyst. ► A synergy effect is observed over Pd/Al2(SiO3)3 for the OHE reaction. ► The OHE reaction of FAL and HAc should be carried out under moderate conditions. ► Other typical bio-oils components have some little effects on OHE reactions. ► The OHE method is a promising route for bio-oil upgrading.
