Metabolic effect of docosahexaenoic acid supplementation in different doses and formulations (ethyl- and glyceryl-) in hypercholesterolemic rats

► Hypercolesterolemic rats were supplemented with two doses of ethyl- or glyceryl-DHA. ► Weight gain, adiposity and glucose were reduced by DHA in a dose-dependent fashion. ► Adipose tissue distribution and FFA were improved, regardless of dose and form of DHA. ► DHA integrated in TAG seems to be more efficient improving plasma lipid profile. ► Dosage and molecular structure influences the effects of DHA supplementation.
