⺠In this work we have demonstrated unequivocally that the Hydrofluoroethers (HFEs) are thermally more stable compared to the conventional carbonates. ⺠HFE containing electrolytes didn't catch fire unlike the carbonates where the intensity and the duration of the flame increase with the increase in concentration of the linear carbonate. ⺠We performed Accelerated Rate Calorimetry (ARC) to quantify the volume of gas generated from the decomposition of the electrolytes. ⺠As expected the HFE containing electrolyte generated â¼50% of the less volume of gas generated by the carbonate electrolytes. ⺠Using Sandia's in-house capability for cell prototyping we fabricated our electrodes, built cells and tested them for the electrochemical and thermal properties.
