Multiparametric image analysis reveals role of Caveolin1 in endosomal progression rather than internalization of EGFR

► We use image quantification of single endosomes to define the role of Cavl in EGF endocytosis. ► Cav1 marks mature EGF endosomes, based on morphological and spatial characteristics. ► Knockdown of Cav1 does not affect EGF-induced EGFR internalization. ► Knockdown of Cav1 perturbs EGF-endosome trafficking in the late phase of trafficking. ► We propose a model in which Cav1-vesicles fuse with EGF endosomes after their internalization.
