Tenascin-C triggers fibrin accumulation by downregulation of tissue plasminogen activator

► We compared transcriptomes of tenascin-C deficient versus tenascin-C proficient cells. ► Expression of tissue plasminogen activator decreases in tenascin-C proficient cells. ► Consistently, tenascin-C proficient cells show decreased fibrinolytic capacities. ► In fibrosis, asthma and cancer, tenascin-C deposition correlates with fibrin accumulation.
