The interaction of hydroxymandelate synthase with the 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase inhibitor: NTBC

Hydroxymandelate synthase (HMS) will bind NTBC, a herbicide/therapeutic that acts by the inhibition of hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD). This occurs despite key residues in the active site of HMS differing from those in HPPD. In addition, the observed kinetic steps for association of NTBC to HMS are similar to those previously observed with HPPD.
