Three nickel(II) complexes derived from a tridentate NNO donor Schiff base ligand: Syntheses, crystal structures and magnetic properties

One mononuclear (1) and two dinuclear, (2) and (3), Ni(II) complexes of a tridentate NNO donor Schiff base ligand HL (1-[(3-dimethylamino-propylimino)-methyl]-naphthalen-2-ol) have been synthesized. Variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements show a moderate ferromagnetic coupling in the triple bridged (double μ2-phenoxido and water) complex 2 and a very weak antiferromagnetic exchange interaction in the di-μ1,5-dicyanamide bridged complex 3.
