Transient multi-frequency Raman generation in SF6

Two-colour pumping was used to generate an ultra-broad bandwidth beam through high-order stimulated Raman scattering in sulphur hexafluoride. The scaling of this process in energy is presented, demonstrating the preferential scattering into anti-Stokes orders and the formation of a plateau with intensities comparable to the pump beams. With ideal phase compensation, the generated spectra may potentially produce sub-3 fs pulses with energies on the order of hundreds of microjoules.
